If you want straighter teeth, you have two reliable routes: clear aligners and braces. Both move teeth into a better position over time, and both can give an excellent result. The honest answer to which is better is that it depends on your teeth, your bite and your lifestyle. Here is how we think about it.
What each one does well
Clear aligners are a series of removable, near-invisible trays. They are discreet, comfortable and easy to live with because you take them out to eat and clean your teeth. For mild to moderate crowding and spacing, they work very well and let you preview your result before you start.
Braces are fixed to the teeth and work continuously, which gives the orthodontist more control. For more complex movement, significant bite correction or rotated teeth, braces are often the more predictable choice.
The questions that usually decide it
- How much movement is needed? Small to moderate corrections suit aligners; complex cases often need braces.
- How disciplined can you be? Aligners only work if worn 20 to 22 hours a day. Braces do the work for you.
- How much does appearance matter day to day? Aligners are hard to spot; ceramic braces are a less visible fixed option.
- What is your bite doing? Overbite, underbite and crossbite are assessed carefully, as they influence the recommendation.
Why a scan matters before you decide
Rather than guess, we take an iTero digital scan and, where needed, a CBCT image. That shows exactly what your teeth and bite are doing and lets us simulate the result. You then get an honest recommendation, a realistic timeline and a clear price before anything begins.
The short version
Neither option is better in general. Aligners win on discretion and comfort for suitable cases; braces win on control for complex ones. A short assessment is the quickest way to know which is right for you.
